The Story of Garvin Corgis

Jim and Gayle Garvin and the Garvin
Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis reside in rural Missouri. Their home is located
on four acres in Centertown, Missouri. Centertown is nine miles west of Jefferson
City, Missouri's Capital.
Jim and Gayle purchased their first Pembroke
Welsh Corgi approximately 31 years ago. They became more interested in the
Pembroke, decided to join the Lakeshore Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club and in 1981 joined the
Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America.

Several of the most well known Garvin Pembrokes
are: Ch. Garvins Summer Color CDX who won Best of Breed from
the classes at the 1983 PWCCA National Specialty (Judges: Miss Pat
Curties - Lees Kennels UK and Miss Patsy Hewen-Stormerbanks
Kennels UK) "Summer Color" has been featured on the
front cover of the AKC Gazette, Dog Fancy Magazine, and Dog World
Magazine.
The same year that Summer Color won
the National Ch. Garvins Magic Marker ROMX was born. His son Ch.
Northrun Sea Go'in Magic won Best of Breed at two Nationals. Magic Marker died at 8 years of age.
At the
time of his death he had sired over 30 Champions.

Jim and Gayle Garvin have been honored
to be the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America's Breeders of the Year and Obedience
Breeders of the Year. The Garvins are the breeders of OTCH Garvins Grandmaster
Freddie, TD. He was High in Trial at a National and the first male in the Pembroke
breed to receive the OTCH.

Over the years the Garvins have bred
and owned Winners Bitch, Best of Winners, Best of Opposite sex at the following regional
specialties: Lakeshore PWCC, Cascade PWCC, Greater Houston PWCF.
They also bred a BEST IN SWEEPSTAKES winner at a PWCCA National.
They have won TWO, BEST PUPPY awards at PWCCA NATIONALS.
The winners were: Garvins Baby Bird and Ch. Otrek Christmas
Carol.
Gayle applied to judge for the AKC
both Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis plus Junior Showmanship in 1992 and was granted
regular judging status in 1993. She also judges Shetland Sheepdogs and
Australian Shepherds |

The Garvins purchased their first
Cardigan in l987. They own the Winners Bitch, Best of Winners, at
the 1992 Cardigan Welsh Corgi National Specialty in Houston, TX. They own the Best
of Breed winner at the 1993 Cardigan Welsh Corgi National Specialty.

The Garvins homebred bitch was BEST IN SWEEPSTAKES at the National
Specialty held in Ft. Worth, TX. They also won BEST BRED BY at
the same National Specialty.
Gayle Garvin Judged the National
Specialty in New Zealand. Falling in love with their wonderful
Country and corgis decided to import three top Cardigans to the United States. The
imported Cardigans have enhanced the Garvin's breeding program immensely adding deep
quality to the native bloodlines.

Nz. Ch. Lucky Venture of Carey (Carey Kennel), Am., Nz., Aus. Ch. Copperleaf
Courtney, (Copperleaf Kennel), Am., Nz., Ch. Badagri Spring Daisy, Top Winning Bitch in
New Zealand for three years running (Badagri Kennel) Garvin Kennels has a selective
breeding program in both Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis. They have lovely
puppies usually available to suitable homes. Their corgis are reared in an ideal
country setting .

The Garvins enjoy all acceptable
colors in the Pembrokes and have tri color puppies, red and whites, and also sables.
The same holds true with the Cardigans where there are more acceptable colors.
Available are red/white, blue merles, tri color (brindle points/tan points)
brindles and sables.
Puppies will be available through 2002 and early
2003. (Both Pembrokes and Cardigans) There will be some young adults for
placement and some mature corgis looking for retirement.
